Regional Knowledge Resource Kit:Administrators
From Regional Knowledge Resource Kit
What is a bureaucrat/sysop?
Administrators, also called sysops (system operators) or bureaucrats, are Regional Knowledge Resource Kit (RKRK) editors who have access to technical features that help with maintenance.
Among other technical abilities, administrators can protect and delete pages, block other editors, and undo these actions as well. These privileges are granted indefinitely. Administrators undertake their responsibilities on a voluntary basis and are guided by an Administrator's Handbook.
Administrators are aware that they should never develop into a special subgroup of the community but should be a part of the community like anyone else. Generally, the maintenance and administration of the RKRK can be conducted by anyone, without the specific technical functions granted to administrators. While the tools granted to administrators are technical and do not convey authority per se, administrators are people that are entrusted with potentially harmful tools.
Because administrators are expected to be experienced members of the community, users seeking help will often turn to an administrator for advice and information, or in a dispute. In general, administrators acting in this role are neutral; they do not have any direct involvement in the issues they are helping people with.
For further guidance see Wikipedia:Administrators, upon which the information here in the RKRK is based.
Can I apply for Administrator status?
RKRK practice is to consider applications for administrator status from any Regional Knowledge Leader (only) who has:
- been an active and regular RKRK contributor for at least a few months;
- demonstrates familiarity with and respect for RKRK policy; and
- demonstrates that they have the trust of the RKRK community.
If you feel you meet these requirements and would like to apply to become an RKRK Administrator, please email the current Administrators detailing how you meet the requirements. In response, approval may or may not be granted by the current Administrators. The decision of the current Administrators is final and there will be no rights to, or consideration of, any appeal.
